The AusCERT conference was recently held in Australia. It is Australia’s biggest security Expo. IMB was attending and showing off how secure they were, but in the process they ended up extremely embarrassed. While IBM employees were talking to everyone about protecting their computers against attacks, they were handing out malware infected flash drives. Complimentary USB flash drives were being given out at the IBM booth at the expo. It turns out that the flash drives were infected with malware, which is extremely ironic, since it is a security expo. Of course, they could have done this on purpose, but it is probably very unlikely. IBM might have been trying to show how viruses and Malware could attack your computer at anytime from anywhere. They may have been testing the delegates at the conference, but I don’t believe it for a second. After the expo IBM notified all of the delegates that the complimentary flash drives that they may have received had been infected by malware, and that they should get rid of them. In any case, the delegates should have been prepared for an attack, as they are professionals in security.
