Many companies have made attempts at external graphics solutions, but none of them have actually released a product. The MSI Graphics Upgrade Solution, or GUS promises to give you limited external graphics, and it will probably actually be released. The MSI GUS connects to your laptop via your ExpressCard slot. It also has its own power supply that supports up to 84 W GPUs. The MSI Graphics upgrade solution will work with most graphics cards, but it will not support very powerful graphics cards because of the power supply and the limited bandwidth that ExpressCard slots offer. It looks like the most powerful graphics card that you can use is the ATI Radeon HD 5760, which is still pretty powerful if you are using it on a laptop with crappy graphics, Intel graphics for example. The MSI GUS is a great solution for laptop gaming if you don't have a very powerful laptop or just don;t want to buy a desktop computer. It should with with any old graphics card that you have laying around, as long as the power requirements do not exceed 84 W. Just put the graphics card in and connect it to a monitor and you are good to go. The MSI Graphics Upgrade Solution will be unveiled at Computex. It is expected to be available for purchase in two ways. One is bundled with an ATI Radeon HD 5760 for about $230, and the other is just the MSI GUS for about $100. The latter is probably better if you already have a graphics card that you would like to use. THE GUS will probably be a great success and give quite a few people with crappy laptop graphics a good speed boost, so that they can finally play more graphics intensive games. It seems like an amazing product.
