Google has launched yet another new service, but this time it isn't a new product, just an improvement to the oldest and best Google product. The new product is called Google Instant, and it will make your search faster, better, and overall more awesome. Google Instant is activated by default for most people, but in case you are one of the few who it isn't activated for, it is fairly easy to do so. Just change the setting on the right of the search bar to on. Now, you probably want to know exactly what Google Instant does, and the name pretty much says it all. Google Instant shows your search results instantly as you are typing, before you even hit the search button. You'll also see suggestions to refine your search with. Google has made some pretty amazing estimates about how much time Google Instant will save you. They are saying that Google Instant will save people an average of 2-5 seconds per search. Their reasoning is that we read faster than we type, which most people do. Google Instant pretty much makes typing obsolete. You just have to type the first couple of words and you have either found what you are looking for or you see what you are looking for in the recommended search queries. Now, the amazing thing is that if every Google user around the world started using Google Instant Search we would save about 3.5 billion seconds each day. This amounts to about 1 hours per second. Now you have to admit, that is a lot of time. Now, I'm guessing you want to know exactly how much time you will save. Lets say that you make an average of 7 searches a day, using Google's estimate of 2-5 seconds per search, and the middle number of 3.5 seconds, you would save about 24.5 seconds each day, that's about 3 minutes a week, 12 minutes a month, and a whopping 2 hours and 30 minutes a year. If you look at the time saved each day it doesn't seem like a lot, but it all adds up. Also, the average person makes more than 7 searches each day, so you will probably save even more time than that. Another cool feature of Google Instant is that the right arrow key acts as an I'm Feeling Lucky button. Google also says that Google Instant will be coming to phones and browser search bars soon. If Google Instant hasn't been activated on your browser yet you should probably just wait a couple of days, as the service is new, or just activate it manually. Overall, Google Instant Search seems like a great and time saving feature, and I think that most users will love it.
