Prepaid cell phones used to be private, secure, and untraceable. All types of criminals and other people who just want privacy have been using them for over a decade. All that will soon change, and depending on how you look at the issue, it could be a good or a bad thing. The good thing is that a lot of crime will be stopped and prevented, the bad thing is that the privacy of a ton of people will be given up. Now let’s get to why. A new bill was introduced a few days ago that will require anyone who purchases a prepaid cell phone to provide ID at the time of purchase. They will then be registered with the phone company. This will allow law enforcement to know who the users of prepaid cell phones are, so they can finally know who all those drug dealers and terrorists are. Some states have already been doing this but now all of them are required to. It’s time to say goodbye to cell phone privacy.
