Coby Releases Kyros Tablet, Overpriced And Low On Features
Coby has just released its new Coby Kyros internet tablet, and it doesn't seem to have any great features, especially considering its high price point. The Coby Kyros features a 7 inch resistive touchscreen display with a resolution of 800x480, WiFi 802.11g, 4 GB of built in flash memory, a microSD card slot supporting up to 32 GB cards, a built in microphone, a built in speaker, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a USB host port for a keyboard or mouse, and a mini HDMI output supporting up to 1080p HD video. The Kyros runs Android 2.1 on a 800 MHz ARM processor, which doesn't exactly make it fast or up to date. As for battery life, the Kyros has a 3600 mAh battery, but there is no word on how long it will last you. The unit is also pretty bulky; Coby's site says that it measures 7.59x4.52x60 inches, but we find it hard to believe that this tablet is 60 inches thick, so we are assuming that that was supposed to be 7.59x4.52x0.6 inches. As for weight, the Coby Kyros is pretty heavy at 0.97 pounds. As you might have guessed, the Coby Kyros doesn't support the Android Market, but it does come preloaded with the AppsLib app marketplace. The Coby Kyros is currently available for $300 on the Home Shopping Network, which is extremely overpriced. The Kyros doesn't really have any of the features that you might want including Android 2.2 Froyo, a faster processor, a thin and light design, a capacitive touchscreen display, or some other connectivity options. The fact that there is very little information on it also makes it kind of shady. Overall, we would not reccommend getting the Coby Kyros, and instead you might want to get one of Archos' new tablets, which are cheaper yet better featured.
